Results of Parish Council Election Held on 1 May 2003
The result of the election was a clean sweep for the "Putting Hartley First" slate of candidates. They won all the seats with 61½% of the votes.
The result was the last to be declared at about 1.45 pm in the Sevenoaks Sports Centre - everyone else had gone home! The delay was caused by the huge ballot paper, which took much longer to count. (For those interested this is done by sticking 25 papers on a big sheet, overlapping with each other so only the crosses show. They then count the crosses and enter the number for each candidate on that sheet in the final column).
The percentage for individual candidates is an inexact science with 13 to be elected and not everyone using all their votes. The percentage here is of 1/13 of the total votes cast (ie. 1,334), the average of this for the Hartley First slate for example equates to the 61½% above.
