Since 1955 when the first major development in Hartley occurred at Greenways took place, residential development has continued unabated. The following pictures are only examples of what has happened in the village. There are many more!

In the 1960's and 1970,s there were several large developments.

Conifer Avenue

There have been many smaller developments replacing existing buildings.

Recent Housing Developments

In addition there has been a lot of backland development as shown in this example in Ash Rd

All this development creates new dwellings.

However, there has not been the consequential increase in schools, roads, water mains and main drainage.

Another issue is what type of housing should be built in the village. Much recent development in Hartley is now of the executive type as shown in this recent photograph of development in Church Road

Executive Housing in Church Road

Some not so expensive housing can be found in the Wellfield area of Hartley as shown in this example at Caxton Close.
