Is there any chance that the playground in Woodland avenue could be upgraded. We live very closeby and all the equipment is for much older children, and is rarely used. We have to go to Longfield or Chantry avenue playgrounds for suitable equipment. Bean Parish council are in the process of upgrading their recreation ground, something like that would be ideal.

Note from Webmaster:
In 2004 a toddler's playground was proposed for the development by 72 Caxton Close, but this was dropped by West Kent Housing Association, after several local residents said they thought it would be a magnet for anti-social behaviour (see http://www.hartleyparishcouncil.org.uk/pdf/2004-11-10%20Comm%20fac%20d raft.pdf).

my wife noticed a sign posted at hartley woods stating that Southwark council will be closing the woods to the public. Is this true, or did she misread it?

Note from Webmaster:
I understand this is the case. It is all to do with the parish council's application to make this part of the wood a "village green", which Southwark have objected to and are now presumably doing this as part of their case. The application will now be decided by Kent County Council. The Parish Council committee dealing with this will be meeting to discuss the situation in Hartley Library at 8pm on Weds 26th April, and the public can attend.

Did you know Kent police Authority plan to move Hartley and New Ash Green from the Gravesend to the Tonbridge Police Area? Sevenoaks Council have already agreed to this because Swanley police station will open a bit longer, but Hartley parish council appear to have no comment at all. Is it a good idea to have our local police based much further away? Should the public have been told about this, so we could have had a say?

One of Hartley's older residents has suggested that Hartley should have a youth award for service to the community. Too often they say troublemakers are rewarded by going on outings, and it is time to honour those young people who contribute.

Any opinions? Let us know!
