Will of Thomas Peny of Fawkham (2 January 1464)

He is sound of mind but sick of body. He leaves his soul to Almighty God, the blessed mother Mary and all the saints, and his body to be buried in St Mary's Church, Fawkham before the porch door.

He leaves to the high altars of Fawkham (12d) and Hartley (Hertle, 8d), Kyngesdown (2s) for tithes forgot and 6s 8d to Fawkham church for repairs. He leaves 4d for each priest celebrating his trental and masses for his soul.

He leaves half a quarter of wheat each to William Mabbe and Henry Mabbe.

He appoints his wife Joan and son Thomas to be his executors.

As to his lands in Fawkham, Hartley and Ash. Son Thomas to enfeoff wife Joan in all of them except for land at Assch called Neleamscroft. She to have them for the term of her life and then they are to go to Thomas. If Thomas die without legitimate heir, then they are to go to son John. If John die without legitimate heir, then they are to go to son William. If Willam die without legitimate heir, then they are to go to son Nicholas. If Thomas die without legitimate heir, then they are to go to son John. If Nicholas die without legitimate heir, then they are to go to son Richard. If Richard die without legitimate heir, then they are to go to son Robert.

Also provisions about land he owned in Whitstaple. Profits of 20 marks to go to Thomas's daughter Joan on her marriage. If she die before then, his executors to find an honest priest to say mass for his soul and for the souls of his descendants for 2 years.
