Old Downs, Castle Hill, Hartley

Old Downs Residential Home is situated just off Castle Hill, and overlooks the Fawkham Valley. Originally a private residence, then a school, it was turned into a retirement home by Kent County Council in 1950. It is now privately owned by Nellsar Homes. They operate 14 homes in the Home Counties. According to their website they offer 41 single rooms for "the special needs of residents who have a diagnoses or Alzheimer's and dementia type illness and who are over the age of 65 years".

Fairby Grange was built in the c17th. It was a farmhouse for a large farm in west Hartley and then a private residence. In the c20th it became a home for expectant mothers for the London Borough of Bermondsey. It is now a residential care home for up to 30 residents. It is privately owned.
