About the Road

Hartley-Kent: Porchester Crescent in 1940
Northfield is a road of 38 houses in the Wellfield Estate between Merton Avenue and Quaker's Close. The houses are all terraced in blocks of 4 to 6. Originally these were all council houses, but the majority are now owner occupied (in 2020 17 out of the 38 houses are for social rent).  Of those in the social housing sector 16 are owned by the West Kent Housing Association, the sucessor to Sevenoaks District Council, while one is owned by the Dartford based Moat Housing Association.

The name is not an ancient one.  Presumably it is a modern one referring to the location within the estate and parish.
The road was built in about 1974 on land that had been part of the Payne and Trapps estate. Had this estate been built as envisaged, then Merton Avenue would have continued as far as Woodland Avenue, and there would have been a road called Porchester Crescent roughly where Northfield is today (see outline of road on German Aerial photo of 1940).
Hartley-Kent: Porchester Crescent in 1940

However as long ago as 1960 Dartford Rural District Council had other ideas for the development of this part of Hartley, which included their compulsorily purchasing the land. They also did not like the planned Porchester Crescent, wanting to "introduce some variation by way of curved streets and incidental open spaces to avoid the dull monotomy of the layout as originally proposed."

Going further back in time Northfield overlays two fields belonging to Blue House Farm (now Mintmakers, Church Road).

Northfield is an enterprising road.  A websearch reveals that businesses are run from about a quarter of the properties.

Information about the houses
Explanation:
Date of Construction is sometimes approximate.
(1) Details of the type of house and the plot history. Plot histories include the ancient farms and fields with the earliest known date, also the name of the smallholding sold by Smallowners Limited at the beginning of the 20th century.
(2) Planning Permissions include the reference number, so more details can be seen at Sevenoaks Council. My records are not complete.
(3) Before Council Tax the tax on residential property was called the rates. The registers for 1956, 1963 and 1972 are held at Sevenoaks Council. The rateable value given is the gross estimated rental value of the property, that is how much the Valuation Office thought people would pay to rent it for a year, the rates were actually calculated on a lower value after certain statutory allowances were made. For some reason the 1956 register contains the rateable value for the properties as it would have been in 1939.
(4) Council tax is based on what the Valuation Office thought the property would have sold for in 1993. It is divided into 8 value bands.
